It’s a good week for readings at the downtown Powells. Junot Diaz will be there tonight, and Amy Bloom will be there tomorrow night.

On another topic: it’s 4:37 AM as I type. When you find yourself awake in the middle of the night, what do you do to re-achieve unconsciousness? (Blogging, I find, is not so effective.)

Well, being a teenager, I often find myself wide awake in the early hours of the morning. If it’s summer and there’s no school, I just read, write or use the computer until I get tired (around 3 am) and sleep in the next day. If I actually have to get up in the morning, I go to bed and relax with my cat. Try this:

Well, it seems that I’ve been somewhat cursed with this since I became a mother. It no longer seems as necessary to wake in the middle of the night to check that he’s still breathing, but my body hasn’t figured that out and I’ll find myself awake and worrying about stupid stuff. What works best to get me back to sleep is to go into another room, pull out a technical manual or a textbook and curl up and read a bit until I’m sleepy.
